The Township of Southgate is preparing for the 2010 Municipal Election being held on Monday, October 25, 2010. The following offices are to be elected by all electors in the Township of Southgate:

Mayor - one (1)
Deputy Mayor - one (1)
Councillor - five (5)

Nominations must be filed by 2 pm on September 10. Nomination papers are available from our office. At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the prescribed nomination fee ($200 for the office of Mayor and $100 for all other offices) by cash, certified cheque or money order, payable to the Township of Southgate.

Campaign Expenses:

Candidates are required to file a nomination paper prior to commencing campaign activities, including raising campaign funds and incurring campaign expenses.

Eligibility to Vote
To be an eligible elector in the Township of Southgate, you must be a Canadian citizen; at least 18 years of age; reside in Southgate or be an owner or tenant of land in Southgate, or the spouse of an owner of tenant in Southgate; and not be prohibited from voting under any law.

Voter Notification Cards
Watch your mail in late September for a voter notification card indicating the location of your polling station. Also watch for municipal election news updates in local newspapers and on our website.

Advance Vote Locations prior to Voting Day
Advance voting will be held on Saturday, October 9 at the following locations:
The Southgate Community Services Building, 80 Proton St., Dundalk from 10 am-2 pm and the Holstein General Store, 392046 Grey Rd 109 from 11 am-4 pm.

Voting Locations on Election Day - October 25, 2010
1. Egremont Optimist Building – for all former Egremont Township electors
2. Hopeville Office – for all former Proton Township electors except Con 1, 2, 3, 4 SWTSR (old Proton survey)
3. Macintyre Building – for all former Village of Dundalk electors plus all electors on Con 1, 2, 3 & 4 SWTSR (old Proton survey)

Accessible Election
It is the goal of the Township of Southgate to ensure that all electors are provided with the best opportunity to vote as independently as possible in the 2010 municipal election. If you have a specific requirement, please contact the Clerk to discuss your accessibility needs.

Election Staff Required
Municipal election staff is required to assist with the 2010 Municipal Election and Advance Vote. Please send a letter of interest including your municipal address, phone number and any previous election experience in an envelope clearly marked “ELECTION” to the attention of Carol Watson, Clerk/Returning Officer at Southgate’s mailing address above.
